PreSonus SW5E AVB Switch a Great Choice for Live Sound

PreSonus SW5E AVB switch

PreSonus has unveiled its SW5E AVB switch, which supplies five ports for use in AVB-enabled digital audio networks. All five AVB ports feature secure EtherCON jacks for compatibility with both standard RJ-45 cables and the more rugged EtherCON cables commonly found in audio production houses for live sound. This, along with its robust construction, makes the SW5E an especially good choice for live sound systems.

For example, the SW5E can be used to network a StudioLive Series III console with PreSonus' new StudioLive Series III rack mixers in Stagebox mode or to connect a StudioLive AI-series console and StudioLive RML-series rack mixer (again as a stage box). It also can network a StudioLive RML-series rack mixer with a StudioLive CS18AI control surface and is great for cascading two StudioLive RML-series mixers to create a larger system. Users also can use the SW5E to connect non-PreSonus AVB-enabled equipment. As long as the product is compatible with the AVB specification, it is compatible with the SW5E.

Four of the SW5E's ports can provide Power over Ethernet (PoE), a rare feature in the current generation of AVB switches. The fifth port is non-PoE, which is useful for linking to additional switches. Network link/activity indicators help ensure that network data is flowing properly.

Housed in a rugged, all-metal chassis, the SW5E can be rack mounted using a rack tray (not included). The unit employs an internal power supply with standard IEC connector.

The PreSonus SW5E will start to become available in late October 2017.
