Jeff Ravitz Nominated for Two Regional Emmy Awards

Jeff Ravitz

Jeff Ravitz has been nominated for regional Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lighting Design by both the Pacific Southwest and the Michigan chapters of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). A Salute To Teachers 2012 was produced by Channel 4 San Diego for the Cox Cable Network, and A Celtic Awakening, Featuring Faith Marion Robinson was presented by Detroit Public Television and carried by local and national PBS affiliates.

"The annual teacher awards program is produced with the highest standards, as it aspires to walk in the footsteps of the classiest awards programs on television," Ravitz explains. "The show combines traditional awards presentations with musical entertainment."

"A Celtic Awakening was produced in the chapel of Detroit's ornate Masonic Temple. There are no standard lighting positions in that space. We had to create temporary, ground-supported mounting locations for all our fixtures, but, of course, the producers wanted the equipment to be unseen by the cameras. That was quite a challenge, and there were times that finding optimum lighting trumped fixture invisibility. Nevertheless, I think we were as discrete as possible to avoid blocking the architecture," Ravitz stated.

Ravitz is currently in the design phases for three upcoming projects that will span from this summer through to the end of 2013.
