Rivas' journey into professional audio began in childhood, helping his father install hi-fi systems in homes and cars. After graduating from an analog-era recording school in Montreal in 1992, Rivas spent five years supervising major events and festivals in Mexico before establishing in Vancouver in 1998. Known for his friendly, positive, and conversational approach, Rivas caters to a diverse range of clients, from the prestigious TED Conferences to touring globally with Australian multi-instrumentalist Xavier Rudd. He also frequently takes his custom-built Waves e-motion LV1 mixing rig to remote First Nations communities on Vancouver Island for the 2 Rivers Remix festival. "I try to make every gig friendly and fun while keeping the focus on absolute audio excellence," Rivas shares.

He recently put to a Lectrosonics wireless lineup to the test during a prestigious six-week engagement with TSN, an official Canadian broadcaster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Operating from a custom-built, 53'-by-37' open-air studio located at Vancouver's Jack Poole Plaza -- which showcased spectacular scenic views of the North Shore mountains, Stanley Park, and the Coal Harbour waterfront -- Rivas utilized his Lectrosonics kit to capture live studio analysis broadcasted across TSN, CTV, and Crave. Under challenging outdoor conditions, including a saturated RF environment expected during an event of this magnitude, the gear delivered flawless transmission for commentators and guests alike.

"When you are doing a live broadcast of this scale, you have to be completely on your game," says Rivas, reflecting on the high-stakes project. "I take my work very seriously, and my priority is to deliver the best possible outcome. In these scenarios, there is no room to be relaxed about your equipment. You have to make sure that everyone can be heard perfectly, loud and clear.
