Nominations Announce for Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle has announced its nominations and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles, Orange County and Ventura County theatre for 2011. Several productions were nominated in two or more design categories.

The design nominees are:

In the set design category, the nominees are Cameron Anderson, for A Midsummer Night's Dream at South Coast Repertory; John Lee Beatty, for Poor Behavior at Center Theatre Group at the Mark Taper Forum; Brian Sidney Bembridge, for The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, at Geffen Playhouse; Michael Ganio, for A Raisin in the Sun at Ebony Repertory Theatre at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center; and Richard Hoover, for House of the Rising Son at Ensemble Studio Theatre -- LA at the Atwater Village Theatre.

Nominees in the category of lighting design are Patrice Besombes, for Iris, the Cirque du Soleil production at the Kodak Theatre; Paule Constable, for the touring production of Les Misérables, which played Center Theatre Group at the Ahmanson Theatre; Jeremy Pivnick, for House of the Rising Son; and Brian S. Shevelenko, for Jerry Springer: The Opera at Chance Theatre.

Costume design nominees are Ann Closs-Farley, for Margo Veil, produced by the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble and Evidence at the Odyssey Theatre; Philippe Guillotel, for Iris; Tim Hatley, for Shrek the Musical, produced by DreamWorks Theatricals, Neal Street Productions, and Broadway/LA at the Pantages Theatre; and Garry Lennon, for Kiss Me, Kate , produced by Reprise Theatre Company at the Freud Playhouse.

In the sound design category, the nominees are Mikhail Fiksel, for The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity; Casey Long, for Jerry Springer: The Opera; Adam Phalen, for 9 Circles, at Bootleg Theatre; and John Zalewski, for Margo Veil.

The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, March 19 at A Noise Within, the theatre company based in Pasadena.
