Obsidian Netron FS16 for Data-Intensive Entertainment Applications

Obsidian Control Systems has introduced the Netron FS16 , a purpose-built network switch designed for lighting professionals who require connectivity under the pressure of live production. Featuring fiber and copper connectivity and PoE capabilities, its networking features make it a trusted alternative to traditional IT switches, the company says.

In a statement from the company: "The Netron FS16 brings clarity to complex lighting networks with dedicated fiber-optic connectivity for dependable, predictable performance. Designed for live productions, it avoids the complexity of traditional IT switches while delivering fast, stable control across long shows, tours, and installations."

"The Netron FS16 was developed in response to industry demand for a network solution capable of handling high-data-volume productions and increasingly networked show environments," states Obsidian Control Systems business director Koy Neminathan. "As our first fiber switch, it delivers a highly capable solution for demanding live event environments, with an IP-rated design that provides the durability required for professional use."

As network switches are increasingly important across multiple disciplines, including audio applications such as Dante, the FS16 is a valuable networking solution beyond lighting alone. "At the same time, it delivers this level of performance at a price point that is significantly lower than many comparable products currently available."

The FS16 features 12 Gigabit ports, 4x fiber ports, and PoE+ support, delivering high-speed data and power distribution for Netron nodes or any PoE+ devices. With a total PoE power budget of 180W, it is ideally suited to distribute data and power to Netron nodes or any other PoE+ compatible network appliance.

Highly optimized for processing the high data volumes found in today's increasingly sophisticated lighting systems, the Netron FS16 provides instant network selection via four dedicated front-panel preset buttons, an external remote control connected via RJ45, or a web interface. The presets allow main and backup consoles or different front-of-house setups to be recalled at a moment's notice, supporting fast network changes and smooth, uninterrupted show execution.
