Robe Launches Super Spikie at PLASA Show, London

Robe's Super Spikie moving luminaire

As the doors opened at 10:00am yesterday at the PLASA Show at London's Olympia, Robe commenced with the official launch of the product it has been teasing in the run-up to the exhibition. At last, it can be named: Super Spikie.

Super Spikie is billed as being "a larger, more powerful supercharged version" of the company's popular Spikie moving light, combining the original's features with a much brighter, fatter beam plus rotating gobos for producing additional aerial effects.

The light source is a 250W RGBW LED multichip with a life expectancy of 20,000 hours minimum. It features Robe's highly efficient optical system with a zoom of 3.5- to 35-degrees in beam mode and 5- to 42-degrees in wash mode. The continuous 360-degree pan-and-tilt movement is said to be fantastically fast, with color mixing that is exceptionally smooth, rich, and fluid.

The unit switches in a fraction of a second from beam to wash, producing a single shadow light output, a feature that will prove popular in television and theatre applications.

The Super Spikie has a high-quality and variable CTO range between 2,700K and 8,000K and tungsten effects, including red-shift and thermal fade.

The famous vari-speed double-rotating "flower effect" of the Spikie has been retained and a three-faced circular prism allows for additional creative choices. The unit weighs only 18kg.

With its elaborate temple-of-doom booth and highly choreographed show performed every hour on the hour, the Robe booth is proving to be one of the top destinations at the PLASA Show. The Super Spikie will be on display at upcoming shows in the US and elsewhere. The PLASA Show runs through September 18.
