2012 Obie Awards Winners Announced

The 57th annual Obie Awards, administered by the downtown newspaper The Village Voice were given out at a ceremony Monday, May 21, 2012 at Webster Hall in Greenwich Village. The awards were presented by Eric McCormack, Grace Gummer, Hugh Dancy, Jonathan Pryce, Justin Bartha, Leslie Odom Jr., Lily Rabe, Michael McKean, Tonya Pinkins, Topher Grace, and Tracee Chimo.

Three design awards were given out. Matt Tierney and Ben Williams were cited for sound design The Select (The Sun Also Rises), produced by Elevator Repair Service at New York Theatre Workshop. Receiving awards for sustained achievement were the lighting designer Mark Barton and set designer Mimi Lien. Barton's recent credits include The Big Meal, at Playwrights Horizons; Gatz, produced by Elevator Repair Service at the Public Theater; Look Back in Anger, at Roundabout Theatre Company, Titus Andronicus, at the Public Theater; The Select (The Sun Also Rises); and The Patsy, at The Transport Group. Currently, he has the musical February House on at the Public Theater. Lien's credits include Milk Like Sugar and The Shaggs (The Philosophy of the World), at Playwrights Horizons; Elephant Room, at St. Ann's Warehouse; and Born Bad, at Soho Rep.
