National Geographic Society Partners with Panasonic

The National Geographic Society and Panasonic Projector & Display Americas LLC have partnered to bring the latter's projection and display technology to the National Geographic Museum of Exploration. The collaboration seeks to create dynamic, story-driven environments with each experience designed to make science and discovery feel immersive and build understanding, empathy, and action toward protecting the planet.

"When visitors step into the Museum of Exploration, we want them to be fully immersed in the world of exploration," says Jason Southern, chief technology and information office at the National Geographic Society. "It takes the right technology to bring our storytelling to life in such vivid detail, and Panasonic's advanced projectors and displays power experiences across nearly every corner of the space -- from our auditorium to exhibitions and galleries to our immersive nighttime experience. True partners with a shared vision are rare, and thanks to Panasonic's collaboration and generosity, our guests can viscerally experience the beauty of our planet and journey alongside our National Geographic Explorers."

Panasonic's technology anchors several of the museum's most ambitious spaces.

Panasonic 4K projection mapping transforms the Courtyard and Pavilion facade into a bioluminescent environment each evening for Wonders of Our World: Ocean. The 17-minute nighttime experience utilizes Panasonic's technology to display dynamic projections on the facade of the museum entrance Pavilion.

In the museum's redesigned Grosvenor Auditorium, nine Panasonic 4K projectors display visuals across surfaces integrated into the theater's architecture and four overhead ribbons to showcase a daily immersive media show.

In the Photo Ark: Animals of Earth exhibition, 30 Panasonic 4K projectors bring National Geographic Explorer Joel Sartore's photography to life, helping visitors connect with endangered species.

In the National Geographic Learning Launchpad Powered by Cengage, up to 30 students can interact at once with a display that lets them follow an animal's movement patterns.

In Geoverse, a 270-degree theatre utilizes 16 Panasonic 4K projectors, three projection walls, and a projection floor to give visiting school groups an immersive way to explore geography.

In The Archives, interactive displays, digital research stations and an 18' projection screen show more than a century of iconic global expeditions and discoveries in vivid detail.

"On behalf of Panasonic, we are deeply grateful to the National Geographic Society for allowing us to be a part of creating such a special space," says Takashi Uchida, CEO of Panasonic Projector & Display Americas LLC. "Seeing this project come to life -- from early ideation and walking the construction floors in hard hats surrounded by dust and debris, to now experiencing these fully immersive applications in action -- has been truly remarkable. Our entire team deeply values this partnership, and we look forward to seeing the immense impact and success of this new museum." natgeo.org/moe
