Seattle University Upgrades Student Center AV with Community Loudspeakers

Community's DA6 architectural surface-mount and D6 ceiling loudspeakers at Seattle University.

Founded in 1891, Seattle University is a Jesuit Catholic university and law school in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. More than 7,400 students are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs within eight schools and colleges.

The university's Father LeRoux Conference Center, located in the Student Center building, is a large, multipurpose room used for live presentations and special events and for movies and video presentations. The Conference Center can be subdivided with an air wall to accommodate two simultaneous events.

Last year, Seattle University hired Sparling, an engineering and architectural firm in Lynnwood, Washington to design AV systems for several of its venues. Morgan Sound, a Seattle-based full-service AV and control system integrator and large rental PA company, installed the university's new AV systems.

For the Conference Center, Sparling's Richard Erwin specified a Crestron video matrix switcher and surround processor, a Symetrix Symnet DSP system with automatic microphone mixing, an eight-channel Shure wireless microphone system, and a Panasonic video projector and new video screen. The system can be controlled from any of three locations with a Crestron touch-screen control panel on a portable podium.

After a comparative listening test hosted by Morgan Sound, Erwin selected Community D Series D6 ceiling loudspeakers for the conference room PA system and DA6 architectural surface-mount loudspeakers for surround sound for movies and multi-channel video presentations. Charlie Morgan of Morgan Sound says the Community loudspeakers look and sound great and were easy to install. He says Seattle University is very pleased with the sound quality and appreciates the performance and versatility of their new conference room AV system.
