London's National Theatre Lights Up to Prevent European Theatres "Going Dark"

Theatres across Europe are taking up the fight, initiated by the UK's Association of Lighting Designers (ALD) as the #SaveStageLighting campaign, against the EU's proposed Eco-design Working Plan 2016 - 2019 regulation. London's National Theatre is joined by Canovas Theatre in Malaga, Lliure Theatre in Barcelona, Civic Theatre in Dublin, and Circo Price Theatre in Madrid, beaming the campaign's official hashtag -- #SaveStageLighting -- on the exteriors of their buildings over the past week.

The National Theatre will today hold an open forum meeting between 10am and 4pm to ensure everyone involved and affected at every level can learn about and discuss the proposed 2020 EU Lighting Regulations and the impact they would have on entertainment lighting.

The "drop-in" forum will provide the opportunity to learn more about the background to these regulations, find out more about the issues, hear what industry bodies ALD, PLASA, ABTT, and PSA and others have been doing to have the rules changed, and see what industry members can do to help.

Key people who have been deeply involved in the Save Stage Lighting campaign will be there to discuss the issues first-hand. It will also be a useful opportunity for the campaign to collect information and comments before attending a meeting to discuss the issues with the EU in Brussels on May 17th.

This issue is real, and it is serious. Don't leave it to others to try to solve. Come along and see how you can help.
