Wedding and Event DJs Feature Elation Gear

Steward's Productions uses Elation luminaires to create something especially memorable for clients.

With so much competition to contend with, wedding and event DJs are finding it increasingly important to set themselves apart by providing that something extra to make an occasion especially memorable. Many DJ's and event companies are turning to the more tailored, personalized qualities that dynamic lighting offers to step up their game and distance themselves from their competitors.

One such example is DJ Brandon Steward, president of Steward's Productions in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, who, besides his entertainment role as a DJ, provides lighting design and event direction for wedding receptions and other events. There is perhaps no event more special than one's wedding day and Steward turns to automated Elation Professional lights to produce a memorable customized event.

"The possibilities to create a truly unique and special environment or magical moment using my Elation gear are many," Steward says of his Elation setup which includes Platinum Spot 5R Pro, Platinum Spot LED II WH, and Design Spot 250 moving heads. "I can transform a reception room from plain to breathtaking, spotlight an entrance, set the mood for the romantic first dance, and then create a full energy club environment for the dance floor, and I can do it in whatever color they ask for." Steward has been using Elation gear on wedding receptions and other social events since 2008 with the Elation Platinum Spot 5R Pro moving head his go to light. "The Platinum Spot 5R Pro's ability to color match with the theme colors of a wedding is excellent," he says of the CMY color mixing fixture, which also allows him to choose from an additional eight dichroic colors as well as 22 gobo patterns. "It's light weight and just the right light output for weddings and other social events we do and as a bonus it draws less power than other moving heads in this class. I like the zoom (11- to 42-degree) and frost filter as well."

Another feature of the Platinum Spot 5R Pro that Steward finds useful is its built-in wireless DMX receiver that allows him to program and control the fixture wirelessly. Steward utilizes an Elation EWDMX IP Transceiver, a wireless DMX transmitter/receiver, to transmit DMX wirelessly to the fixtures. "It's a fast way of setting up and programming a lighting system. It's a real plug and play wireless system and also eliminates the hassle of having to use lots of cable so we can keep a cleaner look."

Steward's Productions handles more than just wedding events with proms, fashion shows, and a host of other events also on the calendar. With plans to add more Platinum Spot 5R Pro's to his inventory, Steward will soon be offering his clients even more memorable bang for their buck.
