D.A.S. Audio Aero 12as on the Move in Asia

Performance Theatre in Guangzhou, Guandong, China.

D.A.S. Audio reports that its loudspeaker systems are proving to be popular throughout Asia. In Guangzhou, Guandong, China, D.A.S. Aero Series 2 and Compact loudspeakers are being used at the Performance Theatre. Here, a new sound system consisting of 16 Aero 12A powered, two-way, mid-high line array modules -- flown eight elements per side -- were placed into Service in late 2010. Compact 218 Sub subwoofers -- ground stacked in a left-right configuration -- provide low-frequency support while Compact 2 (a powered, three-way, mid-high loudspeaker system) enclosures are deployed for use as front fills. Six SML-15A powered, two-way stage monitors/full-range units are used as surround fills to give the audience a sense of being in a 3-D sound sphere.

This combination of equipment was selected based on the theatre's desire to have a punchy system capable of conveying sound effects and other audio elements in a realistic manner to the audience. Equally important was a high level of speech intelligibility that would enable the actors' lines to be delivered with clarity over and above the sound effects and other supporting audio elements. The loudspeakers were installed in such a way as to compliment the ornate character of the theater without being visually distracting.

At the Hanoi College of Art in Hanoi, Vietnam, the school's theatre was recently the recipient of a new D.A.S. Audio sound system. Installed in January, the transaction was coordinated through Hoang Huy Co. Ltd. (the D.A.S. Audio distributor in Hanoi) under the guidance of Tran Nhu Noi, the company's technical representative. For this venue, which has a capacity of roughly 200 people, 12D.A.S. Aero 12A loudspeaker modules were deployed -- flown six elements per side. Four D.A.S. LX-218A sub bass enclosures provide low frequency support and are ground stacked two units per side in a left-right configuration. A D.A.S. DSP-2060 processor handles loudspeaker management tasks.

"As this is a multi-purpose venue that caters to a wide variety of performances -- from rock bands to theatre productions -- we required a system that was able to accommodate high SPL levels," Nhu Noi explained, "all the while bearing in mind that this is an art school where students will be the system operators. A robust system like the Aero 12A satisfies these requirements and, given the space constraints we have, this system deliver the SPLs were seeking, without being visually distracting."

Elsewhere in Hanoi, D.A.S. Audio loudspeakers provided sound reinforcement for a live event. Provisions for the sound system were organized by Hoang Huy Co. Ltd. in conjunction with Nguyen Khai Rental Company (who recently acquired its first Aero system), their business partners in Hanoi.

On this project, 12 D.A.S. Audio Aero 12A line array elements were deployed for the mains, with six modules flown on the right and left sides. Six D.A.S. Aero 218 Sub subwoofers -- ground stacked with three enclosures per the right and left sides -- provided low frequency support. These sub bass enclosures were driven by three D.A.S. SLA-4000 stereo power amplifiers while a D.A.S. DSP-2060 processor handled loudspeaker management tasks.

Eduardo Lopez, D.A.S. Audio Asia's business operations manager, reflected on the company's recent developments in the region, "D.A.S. Audio and its various business partners are very encouraged by the recent events that have led to a number of D.A.S. sound system deployments. I'm confident the business climate and the opportunities for our company will continue to expand."
