The Howell Binkley Lighting Fellowship Application Deadline Approaching, March 1, 2021The application deadline for the first annual Howell Binkley Fellowship Program is March 1, 2021. Interviews for finalists will be virtually held March 10 - 15, 2021. Candidates should submit a resume, a one-page statement addressing: What drew you to Lighting Design? Why are you the ideal candidate for this mentorship? What do you hope to gain from this mentorship?, and three letters of recommendation. The Fellowship will occur during the 2021/2022 season. The Fellowship provides an individual exposure to New York City-based Lighting Designers and the Theatrical Lighting Community. The fellowship recipient will have direct access to Howell's two key associates of many years: Ryan O'Gara and Amanda Zieve. They will provide an inside look at the industry including: developing excellent drafting techniques, advice on finding the next job, observing the tech of a Regional, Opera, Dance or Broadway production, and experience at the tech table for the process of a show. Applicants need at least two years of higher education or equivalent experience, must have a design background, and want to pursue a career in Theatrical Lighting. Created in partnership with the Hemsley Lighting Programs, the Fellowship honors Howell Binkley's legacy of mentorship by providing the extra "push" and assistance in fostering the next generation of theatrical lighting designers as they begin their careers.
