Chauvet Professional Helps Dillon Production Services Create "Renaissance" in Corporate Event Lighting

The Home Depot corporate event by Dillon Productions with Chauvet Professional.

With its dramatic 14-story high atrium, sparkling lobby and 60,000-sq.-ft. of meeting space, the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel has a host of amenities to impress corporate visitors. Recently, this prestigious venue offered a group of guests attending a business conference something else too: a stunning-looking lighting design that would have been unimaginable at a corporate event just a few years ago.

Created by Matt Dillon of Dillon Production Services in Norcross, Georgia, the design featured an array of Chauvet Professional fixtures, including eight Nexus 4 x 4 panels, 36 COLORdash Batten-Quad 12 linear washes, four Q-Wash 560 LED moving yokes, and 54 MVP S5 LED video panels.

"We put together an impressive rig, because corporate event lighting is no longer just about illuminating the proceedings," said Dillon, who created the lively design for The Home Depot. "Today's corporate clients want a look that conveys a sense of excitement, while contributing to the overall image of the company. This is what we strove to accomplish with this design."

Dillon mounted the eight Nexus 4 x 4 panels on truss above the stage and pixel mapped them to create "eye candy" at specific points during the meeting. "We created some very nice chase scenes with the Nexus," he said, "but what really popped were the colors and the brightness. The colors were so natural; they were perfectly smooth; there was nothing uneven about them. You didn't see any of the individual LEDs, no dark areas in the light source; you just got this very beautiful light. When the Nexus panels were a nice purple or blue, we could use them to saturate the entire room in color; it was very special looking."

In addition to the Nexus panels, Dillon's design included COLORdash Batten fixtures positioned on the ground to uplight the stage and curtains. The Q-Wash LED 560 moving fixtures were used to create fill-in light, illuminate the ceiling, and wash the walls near the stage with a rainbow of richly saturated colors.

"We like a full light display, illuminating every area with deep colors so we envelope the audience," he explained. "Between the washes, fill-in light, and the Nexus panels, we were able to create captivating scenes on stage."

As part of creating these scenes, Dillon used the 54 MVP S5 panels to show an ever-changing variety of videos, graphics, pixel images, and text. With a pixel pitch of 5.2mm, the panels deliver high resolution images at a relatively close distance, an attribute that Dillon feels is very important at today's corporate events.

"As a rule, viewing distances tend to be shorter at corporate events than at many other projects, because visitors can move around," he said. "This is especially true when you have an inviting lighting design and people want to come up for a closer look." The company says, judging from the stunning appearance of Dillon's work at this meeting, that's something that a lot of people will want to do.
