SGM G-Spot Light for Danish Circus Troupe

Cirkus Dannebrog

Cirkus Dannebrog is a circus with much history dating back to the second half of the 19th century and thus holds an important role in the Danish circus traditions. However, this circus is following the technological developments and hence using the latest innovations within lighting.

Since 2001, Cirkus Danneborg has been focusing and working with lighting as an important element for the audience experience in relation to artists, animals, and the overall circus tent atmosphere. Lighting designer Liza Van Der Voorn has been working with the circus troupe for the last three seasons, designing and programming light for a circus solely deploying LED technology.

As a new acquisition this year, Van Der Voorn has introduced six SGM G-Spot moving heads to the circus lighting rig. She is very enthusiastic about these luminaires, their quality and flawless operation, night after night, arriving to a new city each day.

She explains: "With only 20 minutes to set up and 10 minutes to dismount the big circular lighting rig, I was looking for a reliable moving head for the summer tour. Only one lamp was to my liking: the G-Spot!"

The G-Spot is especially excellent for circus installations due to its IP65 rating. Besides being waterproof, the IP65 rating and dehumidifier also eliminates the accumulation of other "foreign" and damaging particles such as dust, dirt, and sand, which are unavoidable elements in a circus environment. Thus, these features save time and costs for maintenance and cleaning, while prolonging the lifetime of the fixture.

The six moving heads are now part of an existing rig of 20-30 other LED luminaires, setting spotlight on the performers' acts. They were supplied by Matrix Sales ApS by Urs Friis-Alstrup.

A contributory factor in opting again for a LED solution was naturally the significant savings in energy, and especially savings on diesel as the circus often utilizes their own generators when travelling across the country.
