In Memoriam: Tad Inferrera

Tad Inferrera

Tad Inferrera, an Emmy Award-winning television lighting director and master electrician, died on September 17. The cause was cancer. He was 63.

The longtime master electrician at the Peacock Theater (formerly the Nokia Theatre and Microsoft Theatre) in downtown Los Angeles, he won a Primetime Emmy as lighting director of the CBS special Billy Joel: The 100th - Live at Madison Square Garden.

His sister, Gia Jordahl, said on Instagram that Ferrera "spent four decades traveling the world with some of the biggest names in music like Billy Joel, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, and Robert Plant to name a few. He then traded in his passport for a fast track on the 110 to be the resident lighting designer and master electrician at Staples/Crypto Center and the Nokia/Peacock Theatre. He was the lighting designer for the Lakers, Clippers, Sparks, Kings, and a multitude of award shows and events, including the Emmys, BET Awards, Grammys, and more.

"One of my favorite stories was when he called me from Staples, saying he just walked into a meeting where Prince was sitting at the conference table. He crossed paths with everyone. He spent all those years behind the console, putting the spotlight on some of the biggest names in entertainment, but to me, he was always the real star.

"Beloved son and brother, cherished husband and father, dedicated friend and family member, Emmy Award-winning designer, proud union member, devoted Dodgers fan, and all-around decent human being. He has touched many lives and leaves behind a network of friends and loved ones around the globe who will certainly struggle with this tremendous loss."
