Sydney Theatre Company Upgrades with ETC and Pathport

Cameron Menzies, Sydney Theatre Company's Wharf 1 technician, with the new Ions.

The lighting people at Sydney Theatre Company, ion Sydney, Australia, have been using ETC Ion consoles in the Wharf 2 studio venue for some time. Satisfied with their performance, it became a bit of a no-brainer when the time came to purchase new consoles for the theatre's Wharf 1 venue.

"We were very pleased with the way the Ions were performing in Wharf 2, so we decided to purchase two 2,000-channel Ions for Wharf 1," said Graham Henstock, head of lighting at Sydney Theatre Company. "We decided that the Ions were the best fit for our venues on the Wharf in that they're a very flexible console but compact enough to fit into all of our bio boxes.

"We are extremely happy with our choice to move to the ETC Ion. It is a very powerful theatrical lighting console, which my operators are finding intuitive to use and a pleasure to program."

One Ion acts as the primary console, while the other operates as a tracking back-up. The primary console is fitted with a 20-fader wing.

"In addition, we are also using an RVI, which we install at the production desk during plotting," added Henswtock.

Sydney Theatre Company has also purchased three of Pathway's Pathport C-Series nodes to handle data distribution throughout the venue.
