Underperforming musicals include Rocky, The Bridges of Madison County, Bullets Over Broadway, and If/Then; all received some nominations but not in the all-important best musical category. Among the notable omissions are the fall revival of Betrayal, starring Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, the revivals of Waiting for Godot and No Man's Land, starring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. Other actors without a nomination include Denzel Washington, James Franco, Michelle Williams, Debra Messing, Daniel Radcliffe, Zachary Quinto, and the entire cast of The Realistic Joneses (Toni Collette, Michael C. Hall, Tracy Letts, and Marisa Tomei. The production received no nominations.)

Especially competitive categories include best revival of a play, actress in a leading role of a play, and all of the design categories. Many other races are widely considered to be wide open.

Jane Greenwood, who is nominated for costume design of a play, and who has never won a Tony despite her many notable achievements, will receive a special Tony Award.

The awards will be given out on June 8 in a ceremony that will be broadcast on CBS beginning at 8pm. For the full list of nominees, go to the URL listed below.
