HRS Control to Distribute Picturall Octo Media Server with 8K Play Back

Picturall Octo media server

HRS Control announces it has become the exclusive distributor of Picturall Octo in the US. The Finland-made Picturall Octo media server offers an easy, powerful, and cost-effective solution for multiscreen video installations. It can play back 16 full HD video layers and the company says it is the first media server in the world to play back full 8K resolution media. It is ideal for both rental staging and fixed installations, including theater, concert touring, museums, broadcast, and unique signage configurations. Picturall will be showcased in High Resolution Systems' booth at InfoComm13, June 8-14 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, in booth 4089.

"Picturall Octo stands out from the competition because of the amount of power it offers in one box," says Drew Taylor at HRS Control. "It's designed for applications with a lot of different displays. Octo has eight DVI dual-link outputs each of which can run at a dual-link resolution of 2x 1080p. With external splitters you can get up to 32 independent DVI outputs at 720p each -- all fully configurable with warping, image manipulation, blending, and more."

Picturall Octo runs on the Linux operating system and is controllable using Picturall Commander, free remote-control software with a highly efficient user interface. It is also controllable via DMX, Art-Net, and TCP/IP or with HRS Controls' UDC (universal device controller) software.

"A new version of Commander, which has been totally revamped with more cueing, macro executions, and presets, is expected to be officially released at InfoComm," Taylor reports.

Octo's robust video engine delivers a playback performance of more than 16 layers of full HD video and provides 48 media layers with position, scaling, rotation, color correction, effects, alpha channel, and more. The system also includes a built-in 3D effects generator.

Octo is easily set up: The whole system can be installed in minutes. A simple but versatile display set up and built-in EDID manager are used to line up even the most complex display set ups in less than an hour.

HRS Control is also distributing Picturall Octo+, a new version of the Octo media server, equipped with enhanced hardware capable of running media up to 8K. "With a faster processor, Octo+ is targeted to very high-resolution content needs," says Taylor.

Picturall Octo has been used to display images from the Vancouver Winter Olympics on an innovative multi-screen set for a Dutch broadcaster; run high-resolution media content on a giant LED screen during the opening ceremonies for the ShenZhen Universiade in China; help create one of the world's largest holographic projections at the Tian Long Yuan Theatre in Beijing; and run the media content for a staggering 3,010 square-meter display that comprised the Qin Han Tang Emporium's Sky Screen in Xi'an, China.

HRS Control has demo units of Picturall Octo available now. Octo and Octo+ may be rented or purchased from HRS Control, which also offers operator training to customers.
