Gemini Light, Sound & Video Marks 30th Anniversary

Open house receptions are nothing new at Gemini Light, Sound & Video. The Dallas-based lighting and production company holds them annually to showcase its inventory and services and educate its customers. But this year's event, held November 16-17, was extra special for a couple reasons: 1) it marked Gemini's 30th anniversary in business; and 2) it gave many customers their first view of the company's recently expanded 76,000-sq.-ft. warehouse.

Nearly 250 existing and prospective clients attended the two-day open house, which took place in a section of the warehouse set up to replicate a theater. "Back by popular demand, we set up a 'black box theatre' demo area to achieve an actual production space within our working warehouse," said Cassidi Cain, of Gemini. This allowed customers to see some of the company's newer lighting and video products in action as they would appear on a live production stage. In keeping with the theater theme, there was a popcorn bar, as well as a "lounge" area featuring cupcakes, Italian Gelato and a beverage bar.

Guests were also given tours of the new warehouse and remodeled showroom, where they could become familiarized with Gemini's expanded product inventory. An Elation Professional dealer, Gemini has recently added a number of new products from the Los Angeles-based manufacturer that feature some of its most cutting-edge technologies, including the Platinum Spot 5R and Platinum Beam 5R moving heads, which, the company says, utilize Philips' advanced MSD Platinum 5R lamp to produce 575W-like brightness in a unit half the size that consumes half the energy. Other new additions are the ELAR 108 RGBW and ELAR 216 RGBW IP65 outdoor-rated LED color mixing fixtures from Elation's Architectural division.

Gemini has also entered the LED video area in a big way with Elation's EPV762 and EPV762 MH high-resolution LED video panels. The latter model is a moving head video screen that can rotate just like a moving yoke light fixture, panning a full 540 degrees and tilting up to 265 degrees.

Branching out into video services is one of the factors that has contributed to the company's growth, according to Cain. "Video and lighting technology have merged within the past few years. Therefore, to remain competitive and a true one-stop shop -- light, sound and video -- Gemini now offers video services," said Cain. "Incorporating the new video gear has indeed increased our company's revenues. Most importantly, we are able to meet the demands and requests of our clientele, while offering the same exceptional service they've come to expect."

Gemini exemplifies the model of a successful lighting/video/production company in today's marketplace, said Eric Loader, director of sales for Elation Professional. "We want to congratulate Gemini on their very successful open house and anniversary," Loader commented. "Their new expanded facility and showroom are first class, and we are very proud to have Gemini representing our products to the professional lighting and video markets."
