Tait Uses Limpet Safety and Access Systems to Support U2's Tour

U2's Innocence + Experience tour kicked off in Vancouver's Rogers Arena on May 15th with Limpet E5 units being used as access and safety systems for the innovative video wall that is the centrepiece of the tours visual effects.

Frank Aguirre, president of Innovative Access Systems struck the deal and commented, "Awareness of Limpet systems is growing fast among professional stage riggers in the USA. More folks are now seeing them out on tours and are getting wise to the access, safety, and rescue benefits of bringing them into touring shows. As with many of its projects, TAIT is at the front of innovation. The use of Limpet to be redirected through custom bracket with multiple pulley points to help cover the whole "billboard" video wall. Really lets the Limpet's versatility shine." He went on "We've done a lot of work around rescue scenarios and work positioning with Limpet and there's no question that this is a step change for the industry as it moves toward improving its record with safety.

Aaron Siebert, TAIT project manager for the tour commented: "The unique nature of the U2 IE Billboard presented challenges for safe technician access to work on and in the screen. The Limpet was a natural solution as a versatile rated personnel lift. By mounting two units inside the Billboard header truss and providing the sheaves and outriggers we made at TAIT, we allowed technicians to be able to safely access anywhere on the screen, both inside and outside of the video." He went on "The simplicity of the wireless remotes adds a convenience level for the technicians to control themselves while working in the air, and allows the lines to be run out once the technician is finished. The Limpets give us total access while maintaining technician safety above all else."

Philip Taylor, marketing director at Limpet Technology commented: "Momentum continues to build behind Limpet safety and access systems in the staged entertainment sector and it's fantastic that TAIT, one of the leading staging and automation companies in the world, has brought Limpet on board for a high profile tour like U2's Innocence + Experience. It really doesn't get any bigger than that."
