Rosco Releases WindowCling

The standout product of the WindowCling range is Rosco's D/N Layer that enables filmmakers to darken the windows to make it look like it's night outside, the company says.

Rosco announces the launch of WindowCling -- a new range of ultra-thin filters that can temporarily attach to windowpanes via static electricity to control the light coming through the window.

WindowCling was designed to save filmmakers time on set by eliminating many of the time-consuming and tedious steps needed to previously gel windows. Now film crews can just stick WindowCling onto the windowpane and trim it to size -- making it quicker and easier to control windowlight on location, the company says.

Available in three different neutral densities (ND3, ND6, and ND9) and a day for night Layer (D/N) -- these window control filters are engineered to stack on top of each other in order to achieve the necessary brightness level as lighting condition change outside. In the past, stacking NDs has often resulted in unwanted color shifts. The Rosco WindowCling filters have been engineered to cling and layer on top of each other -- up to eight stops -- without a color shift. And, because there is no sticky adhesive, layers or WindowCling can be removed, stored, and replaced -- enabling filmmakers to easily adjust their windowlight as brightness levels change throughout the day.

The standout product of the WindowCling range is Rosco's D/N Layer that enables filmmakers to darken the windows to make it look like it's night outside, the company says. This filter's unique formulation not only lowers the overall light level of the window by 2.5 stops -- it also adds a tint of steel blue to mimic the coloration of moonlight.

"We began this process with the day for night filter, thinking it would be handy for film crews to simply cling on top of the NDs they already had up in the window," says Joel Svendsen, director of color strategy and textiles. "But once we saw how easily it clung to windows, it was a no-brainer for us to create a range of neutral density gels that would make it easy for crews to ND their windows."

While pricing on the WindowCling rolls is slightly higher than normal rolls of ND, Svendsen points out that the WindowCling rolls are 25' long, compared to the normal 20' ND rolls, so the per foot price is comparable. The longer rolls allow crews to treat three 8' windows or four 6' windows from a single roll.

WindowCling is now available for purchase wherever Rosco products are sold. To learn more, visit: www.rosco.com/windowcling and youtu.be/jS8f4omP1lo?si=ZFKuGhAuKv9CWqd4.
