Robin Danar Selects Line 6 XD-V Digital Wireless Microphones for Push Play

Line 6's XD-V digital wireless system on the production of Push Play, at the Los Angeles Rock Opera Company.

Line 6, Inc. reports artist/producer Robin Danar chose the company's XD-V digital wireless system for the production Push Play, at the Los Angeles Rock Opera Company (LAROC).

Danar, who has produced, engineered, or mixed for artists such as Cat Power, Los Lobos, and Macy Gray; and released his own album Altered States, featuring collaborations with Pete Yorn, Lisa Loeb, and Julian Coryell, among others, was tasked as sound designer for one of the pieces in Push Play, a show that presented songs from a range of LAROC projects in development. He needed handheld wireless mics for some of the singers, and chose the XD-V70. "I compared it with several wired microphones that I had at the venue," remarked Danar, "and loved it sonically."

Part of why he liked the sound so much was the XD-V system's compander-free signal path. The XD-V70 keeps its signal path pristine using 4th-generation Line 6 digital wireless technology, and the result is a clear signal, full-frequency response, and a wide dynamic range. "I was getting great wireless range with no interference whatsoever," Danar said.

Line 6 applied its digital-modeling expertise to the XD-V70, by including selectable models of six different classic and popular live sound mics. You have the option to dial in Line 6's own proprietary "super model," the L6-DC7. "I was quite impressed with the microphone modeling," Danar reported.

He was enthused by how easy it was to get the XD-V up and running. "The system was a quick-and-easy setup, perfectly suited for this situation," he observed. "The rack was small and the loop-through antenna distribution was great. We were in a high RF traffic location but while the analog headset systems involved doing some periodic channel selection, the Line 6 system was clean as soon as I turned it on, remaining that way for the entire run with cell phones, TV and WiFi running everywhere."

"LAROC is the perfect venue to display the unique benefits of XD-V70 and Line 6 digital wireless technology," said Simon Jones, Line 6 VP of new market development. "All the features -- from the signal reliability to the mic modeling -- helped make Robin's show a success."
