Utopium Lighting Adds Philips Selecon PLTR2 RGBAW (ColorBlaze) to Hire Stock

PLTR2 RGBAW (ColorBlaze)

UK-based event lighting company Utopium Lighting has augmented its growing stock of LED fixtures with a recent investment in Philips Selecon PLTR2 RGBAW (ColorBlaze) luminaires.

Supplied by Philips Entertainment's UK distributor Architainment Lighting Ltd, Utopium has reported that they've barely seen the luminaires since they were delivered. This, they say, is because the ColorBlazes only come back into the warehouse long enough to be prepped and tested before they're loaded back onto the truck and sent out on the next event.

Sam Garland, production manager for Utopium, says the decision to go with the Selecon PLTR2 RGBAW (ColorBlaze) was based on the ratio of power economy to light output along with the fast rigging time. "Primarily we were looking to replace our existing cyclorama lighting options," Garland explains. "The Philips Selecon PLTR2 RGBAW (ColorBlaze) offers massive increase in light output and throw compared to our existing stock. They're also very economical when it comes to power consumption and they can save time by cutting the number required in a rig to do the same job as older fixtures. In addition the 6' unit length and "thru" connections means rigging time and cable requirements are considerably reduced."

Commenting on the sale, Architainment Lighting Ltd key account manager, Bryan Kelly, said:"Along with an impressive 3540 lumens per foot (available in 2 ft and 4ft fittings), another key feature of the ColorBlaze TRX is the ease in which it can be controlled. Compatible with a DMX, Ethernet or Stand Alone Control, the fitting is also controllable in 4" increments. I'm thrilled that Utopium has chosen the ColorBlaze TRX and look forward to seeing the fixtures used in a number of diverse projects nationwide."

Utopium Lighting says the appeal to the end user of the PLTR2 RGBAW (ColorBlaze) luminaires is the inclusion of cool white and amber LEDs along with the versatile lens arrangement, Garland elaborates: "The cool white and amber LEDs enable lighting designers to not only create the natural and saturated colors but many more subtle pastel shades. This means that they offer considerably more color ranges than competing RGB or RGBA only units. The range of lenses available for the units ensures the PLTR2 RGBAW (ColorBlaze) is extremely versatile. For example, the luminaire can be used as a wash-light one day and on the next as an up-lighter for a cyc. The ability to change the shape and spread of the beam quickly aids the prep process and again saves us -- a very busy hire shop -- valuable time."

So far Utopium says that the most common use for the luminaires has been for up-lighting cycloramas. The broad color spectrum and throw of the fixture makes them suitable contenders for this application. Lighting designers have been delighted that they can so closely match their corporate client's brand colors. The ability to split batons into modules is also proving valuable for generating striking split color effects.

Garland adds, "The build quality is flawless and easily able to withstand the rigors of touring work. To tie in with this, the maintenance process is simple and quick and the battery powered eprom and display makes pre-patching rigs very simple and expedient."

The PLTR2 RGBAW (ColorBlaze) units have become a top hire item for Utopium due to their ease of use and speedy set up both for prepping and rigging. As Garland concludes: "End-user clients seem even more impressed with the levels of output than we are and, as mentioned previously, the broader color spectrum can only be a good thing."
