Harman's Studer A-Link Interface and Artel DigiLink Platform Join Forces

Studer Artel A-Link card

Harman's Studer and Artel Video Systems today announce that Artel's DigiLink platform has been successfully deployed to transport Studer A-Link audio data streams across fiber infrastructure. Using Artel's fiber transport modules to convert the electrical A-Link signals to standard ITU optical wavelengths, users can now transport A-Link streams across fiber link distances of over 100Km.

Found in Studer's Vista X digital console, A-Link brings a new scale of interfacing to the audio world. Utilizing 3Gb/s digital video interface technology, Studer can now provide a simple and robust digital audio interface capable of transmitting 1,536 - 32 bit audio channels on a single cable. This ultra-high capacity link provides more than enough capacity for today's audio systems but, by using such a fast data transport, will allow audio systems to grow in the future without having to change interface standards.

The company says Artel DigiLink is a state-of-the-art media transport platform. Compact, modular, cost-effective, and rugged, DigiLink is deployed worldwide for metro-regional fiber and IP media transport. This solution with A-Link enables 1,536 channels (equivalent to 24 MADI connections) of "zero latency" digital audio to be transported between the I/O frames (stageboxes) at the remote site and the mixing console back at base. Full control of the analog parameters of the microphone amplifier (gain, phantom, and filter) is available on the mixer surface, which can be over 100Km away. A return fiber is also provided, enabling return audio circuits, control, and status to be connected over the same link. Using the optical multiplexing features of DigiLink enables several A-Link streams, along with video and Ethernet, to be multiplexed on a single fiber offering complete remote coverage including video, audio, control, and communications over a single fiber pair.
