Chauvet DJ 4Bar Flex Helps Popular Baton Rouge Nightspot Create a "Production Feeling" on Stage

Sometimes even the most diehard sports fans want to do more than just root for the home team. The owners of the Station Sports Bar and Grill in Baton Rouge realized this, which is why they divided their well-known establishment into two separate sections, one a traditional sports pub with pool tables and LSU Tiger memorabilia on walls, the other a performance club with live band performances, a DJ, weekly comedy nights, and some vivid stage lighting provided by the 4Bar Flex from Chauvet DJ.

"There was no real lighting system to speak of at the club before, but the owners knew they needed to create an exciting production feeling on stage if they were going to attract more business from students at LSU, which is 10 blocks away," says Ray Zeigler of RZI Lighting (New Orleans). "The Chauvet DJ fixtures were instrumental in helping us accomplish this goal. We used two bars on stage on two FOH facing the stage."

As is so often the case with mid-sized clubs, budget was an issue at the Station Sports Bar and Grill. The affordable price of the Chauvet DJ 4Bar Flex was much appreciated by the client, says Zeigler, as was the fixture's user-friendly features. "All of the fixtures had to be controlled by the current 16-channel board or by foot controllers in this job, which is why the Flex bars came in handy," says the Louisiana LD. "There is normally not a board operator on hand, even on band or comedy nights, so the lighting has to be pretty self-sufficient. Ease of use and control were critical to our choosing the Chauvet product."

The 4Bar Flex is a complete LED wash system with 144 RGB 0.25W LEDs; multiple control options, including standalone, DMX mode, and footswitch; as well as built-in automated and sound activated programs.

"This was the ideal fixture to use for lighting bands on this stage," says Zeigler. "It absolutely has some very good out of the box effects and can be left alone on sound activation with no controller. My client is getting the look they wanted on stage without having to take on a lot of added cost."
