Felix Peralta Calls on 298 CHAUVET Professional Fixtures for Supernova Strikers Debut Over 10 million viewers watched the debut of Supernova Strikers, which took place before sold-out crowds at the Palacio de los Deportes last year in Mexico City. The event, created by Miguel Angel Fox Muller and the production team at Darmah, featured World Boxing Council sanctioned matches between influencers and celebrities, offered plenty of riveting pugilistic action. Anyone who saw internet personality Alana Flores's hard-fought victory over actress Gala Montes would agree with that. But the action here wasn't confined to the ring, there were also entertaining exhibits and performances by top flight musical artists, such as six-time Latin Grammy winner Christian Nodal. Pumping up the energy level from the moment the combatants made their way to the ring, to the final act of the musical performances was a lighting design by Felix Peralta and Gabino Guillen that featured 298 CHAUVET Professional fixtures. Working seamlessly with video content provided by longtime collaborators, the screen designer Bianca Moncada and the team at Darmah, the lighting team helped immerse the crowd (and TV audience) in every action packed moment. Peralta and his colleagues constantly kept their massive broadcast audience in mind when designing for the event, which took place in multiple spaces inside the massive arena. "Our TV audience was huge, but these days, one has to expect to that everything can and will be seen either on a stream, you tube or social media account," he explains. "We prepare each show with that expectation. The boxing ring was balanced to 4,800k...at 24' candles. I dialed in our follow spots to the same cocktail. All areas were balanced to the same color temperature and exposure. That being said, once that baseline was created, we played with color and intensity shifts at times, to create some incredible and dramatic shifts during the production." The "workhorse" of the rig were its 180 Color STRIKE M fixtures, which were used to provide bold lighting for the audience area. Peralta and the team also relied on the motorized strobe-washes to lend a shaping architecture to the two rectangular side screens. Another role the fixtures played was as foot light strobes at the entrance runways. Peralta used his rig's 94 COLORado PXL 16 motorized battens to create curtains of light alongside the event's two large rectangular side screens. Between the boxing matches, additional PXL Bar 16s served as a backdrop during the musical performances. "They were a great tool to create visual dynamics and play with different color combinations throughout the show," he says of the PXL Bar fixtures. Beyond the boxing, a highlight of the event were the performances by Christian Nodal and the other musical performers. To add punch to this segment, Peralta lit the stage-ring with 24 Maverick Storm 4 Profile fixtures. (He also bathed the ring in color from those fixtures during the dramatic boxing entrances.) "The Christian Nodal performance was pretty iconic, especially with the augmented reality video moments that Team Darmah was able to provide," says Peralta, who added that he felt fortunate to be surrounded by so many talented people, including show designer Rodrigo Proal & his team from Darmah. Lighting programmers Chris Fernandez Ceci Guillen; our head gaffer Alex Flores and the lighting team of Michael Smallman, Mike Mustica, Cesar Hernandez, and Jesus Guillen. "Everyone on our team came together," says Peralta. "This was the first Supernova Strikers event and we wanted to come out swinging with the inaugural event. We are eager to work on the next chapter, Supernova: Genesis, which will happen in April."
