Drum Maven Matt Brown Picks TELEFUNKEN

Producer, engineer, drummer, drum technician, and arranger Matt Brown has an arsenal of microphones from TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik at his disposal for his many endeavors.

"My drum course is being released this month through URM Academy," says Brown. "I used all the Telefunken mics I have throughout the video and described them as my favorite go-tos because of how great they sound." (https://urm.academy/?s=Matt+Brown)

Brown was born in Jacksonville, Florida to a musical family and at the age of three started playing drums, just like his father. By the age of 15, Brown was engineering and editing at his father's recording studio. He continued developing his drumming skills while learning how to produce, engineer, edit, and record.

Brown's professional drumming career began at Walt Disney World while attending the University of Central Florida as a percussion major.

"I can't tell you enough how much I enjoy using Telefunken microphones," Brown explains. "I know I shouldn't be surprised anymore, as I've been using the M82, M80, M60 FETs, and large diaphragm Copperhead condensers for years now; but they can still take me by surprise when I first pull up the mic."

Brown freelances as a studio drummer, producer, recording engineer, and ProTools editor. His knowledge of drums and recording was forged in real-life professional settings, playing sessions for major record labels and corporate publishing projects.

"I just had another one of those surprising moments yesterday on a drum session with all of those mics in use -- M82 on kick, M80 on snare, M60s on overheads, and the Copperhead CU-29s on room duty. I pulled up the faders and without any EQ and minimal compression on the rooms, the drum tone blew away my clients and just made me smile. And, I just tried the M81-SHs on toms this week and they are definitely the next addition to my mic locker. Just killer."

As a session drummer, Brown records real drums for projects at his Solar Studio with his extensive drum collection. He has toured the world and has a wide range of styles, bringing precision and energy to live performances. His inventory includes seven full drum kits, with an additional nine kick drums and 25 snare drums.
