Joseph Jefferson Award Nominations Announced

The nominations are out for the Joseph Jefferson Awards, which honor achievement in Chicago's professional theatre scene. During the 2012-13 season, Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 143 Equity productions offered by 51 producing organizations; from these openings, 109 productions were "Jeff Recommended" and eligible for award nominations.

In the Large Theatre category, Chicago Shakespeare Theater has19 nominations, including eight for their presentation of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday In The Park With George, with nods for the production, director Gary Griffin and music director Brad Haak, as well as four for Shakespeare's Henry VIII. Marriott Theatre has 13 nominations, including six for South Pacific. In the Midsize Theatre category, Porchlight Music Theatre has 12 nominations, including six for the musical Pal Joey.

Multiple design nominees include set designer Walt Spangler, for Collected Stories, at American Blues Theater, and Measure for Measure at the Goodman Theatre; lighting designer Jesse Klug, for columbinus, at American Theater Company, and Wasteland, at TimeLine Theatre Company; lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, for Julius Caesar and Sunday in the Park with George, both at Chicago Shakespeare Theater; costume designer Mara Blumenfeld, for The Jungle Book, at the Goodman, and Sunday in the Park with George; and projection designer Mike Tutaj, for 33 Variations, at TimeLine Theatre Company, and Sunday in the Park with George. Other productions earning multiple design nominations are Edward Albee's Seascape, at Remy Bumppo Theatre Company; The Whipping Man, at Northlight Theatre; The Iron Stage King: Part One, at the House Theatre of Chicago; and Henry III, at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.

The awards will be given out on Monday, November 4 at Drury Lane Oakbrook, 100 Drury Lane, Oakbrook Terrace.
