Aercoustics Engineering Limited Receives Award of Excellence at 2011 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards

Aercoustics Engineering Limited has won an Award of Excellence at the 2011 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards Gala. It was honored for its work on the Queen Elizabeth Theatre acoustical renovation. The awards are presented jointly by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer Magazine. "The awards recognize the greatest engineering works designed and built by Canadian consulting engineering firms," says John Gamble, president of ACEC. "To win an Award of Excellence is considered a prestigious honor by the industry."

Awards of Excellence were presented at the Ottawa Convention Centre in categories ranging from buildings, environment, transportation, water resources, and project management. Aercoustics Engineering Limited was honored in the Buildings category.

Aercoustics specializes in acoustic design, noise control and vibration control. The Queen Elizabeth Theatre was a complex project taken on to be completed and ready for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Aercoustics Engineering's work involved insulating ventilation noise as well as balancing music loudness and reverberations in the theatre. The acoustical renovation has been described by the Vancouver Opera as "a minor miracle."

"One of the toughest parts of our job is to convince Canadians that a Canadian engineering firm is good enough to design the acoustics of a concert hall. Recognition with an award such as this helps that effort immensely," says John O'Keefe, principal, Aercoustics Engineering Limited.

The winners were selected by a panel of twelve jurors organized by Canadian Consulting Engineer Magazine. All of the jurors have extensive backgrounds in engineering, construction and possess an acute knowledge of the industry.
