Barco Introduces a New Range of High-Resolution Indoor LED Walls

Barco's X2 2.7mm pixel pitch, 2,000 nits LED display

Barco, a provider of LED technology, introduces a new range of high-resolution indoor LED video walls. With a pixel pitch of only 1.6mm, 1.9mm, and 2.7mm, the X series couples the benefits of LED visualization with very high resolution. This not only offers new possibilities in the traditional LED markets, but also enables LED products to be introduced in a whole range of new markets, including control rooms and boardrooms.

LED walls excel in brightness and color depth, delivering stunning visuals wherever you need them. As a pioneer in LED visualization, Barco has years of experience in creating LED video walls that combine visual awe with utmost reliability. Barco applied its insights into both the market and the customer's needs to design this high-resolution X series and provide additional value with its products. With a number of innovative features -- including front access, factory calibration, high-quality dimming, and easy and fast installation -- the company says this new series brings the advantages of LED visualization to applications where high resolution is essential.

For a display to be truly ergonomic, it must be fully adaptable to any lighting condition. This means that the LED wall needs to show the same level of detail when operating in dimmed mode as it does at full brightness. This is an issue for many LED walls, because their dimming mechanism reduces the dynamic range and color accuracy. Barco's optimized image processing technology is said to take special care of color reproduction -- allowing the user to adjust the brightness to any environment, without any loss of quality or detail.

"We have found that high-quality dimming is crucial for LED video walls to be integrated in 24/7 applications," says Chris Colpaert, Barco's VP LED and image processing. "Dimming enhances ergonomics and makes the system more flexible, while also extending the lifetime of the LEDs and reducing power usage while maintaining excellent image quality. To further ensure reliability, Barco also offers a range of management software, including intelligent systems that automatically detect and communicate failures and even apply redundancy."

Barco's high-definition X series also benefits from the many advantages the unique Infinipix image processing platform. Infinipix drives all LED tiles at the highest image quality and with the highest color accuracy in and between tiles, so the company says users can count on an optimally aligned LED wall. The Infinipix technology also goes a step further in offering an extended form of signal redundancy: in the unlikely event that the data path between the tiles is interrupted, a redundant data path takes over to ensure that an uninterrupted image is displayed.

Although Barco's LED walls are of the highest quality, there is still a slight chance that, after many thousands of hours of operation, a pixel fails. When this happens, Barco's "Pixel Fusion" technology makes sure dead pixels are virtually unnoticeable. So, your wall remains fully operational -- and the simple tile replacement can be scheduled at the user's convenience.

Barco's LED walls are designed to be set up quickly and easily, to perform from the first moment, and to have a minimum of maintenance downtime. Using super-precise mechanics and an truss beam installation technology, the company says their "LED walls can be installed faster, cheaper, and more accurately on uneven floors. Furthermore, the LEDs are perfectly calibrated when they leave the factory, so you have a perfect image from the start. The front access to the tiles also ensures faster and risk-free servicing."

"When designing the X series, we benefited from our many years of technical experience in LED visualization and our profound understanding of the customers' needs," Colpaert continues. "For example, we paid special attention to protecting the sensitive edges of the tiles. The innovative mounting system ensures that the tiles are less vulnerable than competing models, and the accessibility from the front enables you to service the video wall without damage. This is one instance where Barco's added value truly comes to life."

Barco's high-resolution X series was unveiled at the Integrated Systems Europe trade show in Amsterdam earlier this month.
