Fohhn Unleashes New Subwoofer Power at Prolight + Sound

Fohhn Audio's XS-22 active subwoofer

Fohhn Audio launches two new 12" high-powered subwoofer models at this year's Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt, Germany, running April 10-13. The XS-22 active sub is a new addition to the German manufacturer's X-Series compact subwoofers, whose low weight and digital technology make them ideal for a range of mobile applications. The subwoofer features a 12" long excursion speaker, integral 1500W Class D digital amplifier, and Fohhn Audio DSPs. Weighing just 26kg, the XS-22 can deliver a max SPL of 127dB and the company says is noted for its dynamic range and low frequency response. Integral DSP technology enables the subwoofer to be networked and remotely controlled. It can also be used to power any Fohhn mid-high passive loudspeaker systems.

The new PS-22 active/passive subwoofers augment Fohhn's Perform series. Designed for a wide range of uses, they are particularly suitable for flown applications that involve beam steering. The subwoofer can be effectively combined with Fohhn's Focus Modular beam steering series, and with conventional line array systems such as the Fohhn PT-8. The high-powered active PS-22 model is equipped with a 12" long excursion speaker, integral 1000W Class D amplifier, and Fohhn Audio DSPs. The passive model also features a long excursion 12" speaker (500W/8Ohm). Both models have a vented design.

The new active subwoofers (XS-22 and PS-22) can also be used to build Focus sub arrays. Here, multiple Fohhn subwoofers are combined and their beam characteristics controlled in real time via Fohhn Audio Soft software. The company says this unique control capability results in powerful and precise reproduction of bass frequencies, more even coverage, and a reduction in the effects of unwanted room reflections.
