Dawn Hollingsworth Joins IBE Consulting Engineers

Dawn Hollingsworth

IBE Consulting Engineers (IBE)-a leading MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) engineering firms-has added Dawn Hollingsworth, LC, IALD, as director, lighting design.

"IBE Lighting Design is reinvigorated by the hiring of Dawn Hollingsworth as director," said Alan Locke, PE, founder and principal of IBE Consulting Engineers. "Her award-winning design skills and leadership experience will be an important part of the future of our lighting design department."

Hollingsworth joins IBE after a more than 20-year career, most recently as managing partner at Visual Terrain, Inc. She has garnered industry recognition for creating transformational lighting solutions for a wide range of civic, commercial, and private and public mixed-use projects. She was named Architectural Lighting Designer of the Year by Lighting Dimensions International in 2000, in addition to winning numerous awards from the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

"Leading IBE Lighting Design is an exciting opportunity to blend lighting design with IBE's commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability," says Hollingsworth.

"I look forward to assuming a leadership role in such projects as the Frederick Fisher and Partners Architects-designed Lois & Robert F. Erburu Gallery at The Huntington Library in San Marino, California, and the THA Architecture-designed Scripps Institution of Oceanography Marine Ecosystem Sensing, Observation and Modeling (MESOM) Laboratory at UCSD."

IBE Lighting Design is an in-house department that offers comprehensive interior and exterior lighting design services from earliest concept development through installation. While operating independently, the lighting department can draw on the resources and talents of IBE's MEP engineers, LEED Accredited Professionals, and technology experts to create aesthetically sophisticated, high-performance, and technologically advanced architectural lighting schemes.

Hollingsworth is a former Los Angeles section president of IES, past board member of IALD, and is currently on the Themed Entertainment Association Thea Awards nominating committee and is the treasurer of the IALD Education Trust. She is registered by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) as a lighting-certified (LC) professional and an American Institute of Architects (AIA) affiliate member. In addition to speaking at numerous national conferences, including the AIA convention and Lightfair International, Hollingsworth has taught both theatrical and architectural lighting design at various Los Angeles-area universities, including Loyola Marymount University, University of Southern California, Woodbury University, and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and is currently an adjunct faculty member at Otis College of Art and Design.

She holds a bachelor of fine arts in theatre design and technical production from the University of Oklahoma and a master of business administration from Pepperdine University.

IBE Consulting Engineers designs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems that are responsive to architectural goals, meet clients' budgetary and technical expectations, and achieve energy efficiency, ease of maintenance, system integration, and maximum sustainability. IBE has completed a wide array of project types, including large office buildings, museums, entertainment facilities, libraries, laboratories, film archives, educational facilities, retail buildings, and housing projects.
