In Memoriam - Michael W. Proscia

Michael W. Proscia

Michael W. Proscia, general secretary-treasurer emeritus of IATSE, passed away on February 21, 2016. He was 87.

An IATSE member since 1957, Proscia was a founder of Local 477, and served as president and business agent of Local 52 for several years. In 1980, he was elected international vice president, and then general secretary-treasurer emeritus in 1994.

Proscia was also instrumental in organizations such as the Conference of Motion Picture and Television Unions, the Radio and Television Working Press Association, the Press Club, and served as a New Jersey film commissioner. Proscia also contributed his time to the Knights of Columbus and the Society of St. Mary of Costantinopoli. During World War II, Proscia served as a Signal Corp. Photographic-Master Sergeant and was awarded a Victory and Good Conduct Medal.

In 2011, Proscia received an award to honor the Michael W. Proscia/IATSE Local 477 Scholarship, which assists children of Florida's professional filmworkers in their higher education.

IATSE "mourns the passing of Michael Proscia and expresses gratefulness for his invaluable contributions to the IATSE and its membership."
