Asking Alexandria Takes to the Road with Bandit Lites

English rock band Asking Alexandria is out on tour promoting their latest album with a lighting system provided by Bandit Lites. Comprised of guitarists Ben Bruce and Cameron Liddell, drummer James Cassells, lead vocalist Danny Worsnop, and bassist Sam Bettley, the band released their eighth studio album Where Do We Go From Here? on August 25 to critical acclaim.

Following the band's European tour, lighting designer Corbin Alvae sought to utilize fixtures that would offer a host of functions to supply the band big, stadium style lighting that would translate to clubs and theatres.

"The band has such that groovy and heavy rock and roll style that I needed to provide a design that really highlighted that and bring those moments to life on the stage even more," explains Alvae. "When Corbin reached out to me about his design for Asking Alexandria, I was beyond excited to work with him on this one," says Bandit Lites client representative Mark Scherer. "His fixture choices and implementation of them was all thought out and perfectly executed. His design packs a huge punch with bold looks in a compact club form."

Bandit Lites supplied the tour with Chauvet COLORado Solo Batten IP 65, Elation ACL 360i, Elation Proton Eclypse Strobe IP 65, and ROBE MegaPointes.

The Elation 360i ACL's motility capabilities offered a wide range of creative shapes and movement. Coupled with Robe MegaPointes ability to go from a beam to a spot (not to mention its punchy prism and gobo wheel), Alvae delivered the arena lighting looks in spades. The Elation Eclypses rounded out the strobe/blinder selection as it both provided pixel mapping looks while also packing a punch.

"For songs like "Never Gonna Learn" and "Let Go," I give a classic rock 'n roll feel with big looks, movements and gobo/prism shapes. For songs like "Dark Void" and "To The Stage," I go straight in and hit the crowd hard with a lot of movements, but with a lot of heavy and tasteful strobe and pixel moments."

Bandit Lites provided a rolling Tyler Truss which ensured the lighting would both store well during changeovers as well as get on and off the stage quickly during the band's festival performances.

"Working with Bandit has been such a treat," says Alvae. "Everyone that I have come in contact with and worked with on these tours have been nothing but welcoming and extremely helpful. One of the biggest things that stood out to me very quickly is how detail-attentive each person is and that has helped a lot with making sure my rigs for these tours get the right treatment they need; especially going from looking at a pre-viz drawing through emails to actually seeing the full rig in person look identical," finishes Alvae. "That has impressed me a lot and can't thank the Bandit squad enough for everything they have done and helped me with."

"From a pre viz rendering to the final product, Corbin had a plan in mind and I was happy to play a small role in making this tour look as incredible as it does," Scherer adds.
