Yamaha Introduces DSR Series Active Loudspeakers

The new DSR Series active loudspeaker line from Yamaha includes the full-range DSR112, DSR115 and DSR215, along with the DSR118W subwoofer. They feature digital sound processing, D-CONTOUR multi-band dynamic processing, and 24-bit discrete A/D and D/A converters. Digital technology in the DSR Series loudspeakers includes integral digital tuning, "intelligent dynamic control," digital drive, and DSP protection. Integral digital tuning uses 48-bit digital signal processing and acoustic technologies, and digital crossover networks use high-order FIR (finite impulse response) filters for linear phase response. "Intelligent dynamic control" uses the D-CONTOUR multi-band dynamic processor to monitor output levels and vary the amount of boost in each frequency band. The speakers feature 1300-watt class-D amplifiers, switch-mode power supply with power factor correction, and fan-less convection cooling. DSR speakers also employ three-way fail-safe functions for the power supply, amplifier circuits and drivers.

"These loudspeakers deliver top-quality performance and are ideally suited for a wide range of professional applications," said Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, live sound, Yamaha pro audio and combo division. "The new features in the DSR line set the standard for affordable active speakers by delivering class-leading power, extreme sound pressure levels and a listening experience that redefines high definition audio."
