ADJ's AX2 Console Now Shipping

ADJ has announced the immediate availability of the new AX2 lighting console. This professional, hardware-based control system combines command-line-driven ONYX software with a premium tactile control surface, enabling users to create complex looks quickly and confidently. With integrated processing, advanced creative tools, and a robust, tour-ready build, it is said to deliver the flexibility and performance demanded by modern productions.

Developed in partnership with ADJ's sister company, Obsidian Control Systems, the AX2 console was officially unveiled to the industry at LDI in Las Vegas last December and is now ready for deployment to live productions, tours, houses of worship, theatres, clubs, and permanent installations. It also features an integrated touchscreen, premium physical controls, a powerful media engine (DYLOS), and up to 32 universes of output.

The AX2 is billed as a purpose-built hardware controller that offers a responsive, tactile control surface engineered for professional environments. Ten high-quality 60mm playback faders, each with four function-assignable buttons, responsive digital encoders, a secondary 3.5" touch screen, and dedicated function buttons provide confident, hands-on operation. A bright 15.6" full HD multi-touch display - which folds down for protection in transit -- delivers clear visual feedback, while the rugged chassis ensures reliability on the road and in fixed installations, the company says.

Powered by Obsidian Control Systems' ONYX software, the AX2 offers a flexible command-line-driven environment that supports both fast programming and deep parameter control. An industrial motherboard loaded with an Intel i5 Hexa-Core CPU paired with 16 GB DDR4 RAM and a 500 GB NVMe M.2 storage drive ensure ample processing capacity. The console can output up to 32 universes of DMX, and connectivity is extensive, including four 5-pin DMX ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports for Art-Net, sACN, and ONYX X-Net, plus full MIDI and SMPTE support -- making the AX2 well-suited for timecoded shows and multimedia environments.

As production demands grow, the AX2 can scale accordingly, integrating smoothly into larger control environments while maintaining its streamlined, all-in-one design. The console is also fully compatible with the NX P playback wing from Obsidian Control Systems as well as any Windows USB touchscreen (supporting up to two additional 4K touchscreens).

One of the standout features of the AX2 is its built-in DYLOS Media Engine, which provides five zones of pixel control directly within the ONYX environment. This enables users to create vibrant pixel-mapped effects, layered visual content, and media-driven looks without a separate media server. The result is a streamlined workflow that merges lighting and media into one cohesive creative platform.

From quick-start guides to advanced deep dives on programming techniques, these resources make it easy to get up and running quickly while unlocking the full power of the platform.

With its combination of dedicated hardware control, fast workflow, powerful command-line software, and premium build quality, the AX2 is billed as ADJ's most advanced lighting console to date.
