From APTK to VDVO -- National and International Associations to be Represented at Stage|Set|Scenery

"Whether the subject is theatre technology, films, events or museum technology - Stage|Set|Scenery is the ideal platform for an interdisciplinary dialogue, an exchange of views on specialist subjects and for launching new international projects," says Hubert Eckart, managing director of DTHG Service GmbH. That is why numerous national and international associations will be attending the trade show and conference that is taking place from June 18 to 20 in Berlin. The theatre technology sector is well represented, with the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT), the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), the China Entertainment Technology Association (CETA) and the Russian Theatre Workshop Association (APTK) all taking part. Other associations including the Organization for Dance Therapy (tamed), the Association of Event Organizers (VDVO) and Crew United, the professional network for film industry workers, are also represented at Stage|Set|Scenery in Hall 22.

"The fact that there are so many industry experts present makes Stage|Set|Scenery very special. You can meet more national and international associations in Berlin than at any other event," says Eckart. "That is why we are especially pleased to be organizing the general meeting of OISTAT at Stage|Set|Scenery."

OISTAT is also taking part in the DTHG Symposium on June 17, which will be held on the eve of Stage|Set|Scenery at the Palais am Funkturm: 'Theater, theatre, teatro - a guide to cultural venues in the urban environment' will round off a series of symposiums that are taking place as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage on 'Sharing Heritage'. The result of these symposiums is a guide to the construction, maintenance, and refurbishment of theatres and cultural buildings which will be presented at Stage|Set|Scenery. The aim of this project, which is sponsored by the Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, is to preserve the unique world cultural heritage of the theatre landscape while also accommodating possibilities for creative development with functional requirements and demands such as the protection of listed buildings.

The annual general meetings of two important OISTAT commissions are also taking place at Stage|Set|Scenery in Berlin: that of the Education Commission and the Communication and Publication Commission. Both commissions are following up invitations by German OISTAT center in Berlin. Key topics include the escalating levels of repression that artists are experiencing in many countries around the world and the strengthening of international cooperation.

Eckart says, "Stage|Set|Scenery is establishing itself as an important platform for an international dialogue on global collaboration within the live performing sector. This is also reflected in the participation of the initiators of the Council of Creative Skills Europe, whose focus is on promoting skills and qualifications in this sector."
