Artistic Licence Overhauls DMX-Workshop and Launches New Training Video Series

Artistic Licence's Cogsy

Artistic Licence announces a significant upgrade to its free software application, DMX-Workshop. Designed as a network management, analysis, configuration, and diagnostics tool for Art-Net networks, DMX-Workshop now offers an improved user interface and sophisticated new functionality. This includes a "ping radar" for instant node detection, data packet analysers for both Art-Net and RDM over Art-Net, and the ability to transmit sACN and KiNET data.

Not to be left out, the handy Bandwidth-Tester application has also undergone a major overhaul. Bandwidth-Tester is designed to allow stress testing of a network by transmitting multiple universes of lighting data. The new version allows the user to select unicast operation in Art-Net 3 mode or to broadcast data for worst case network analysis. In addition to Art-Net, the sACN and KiNET protocols are also now supported.

Even more free resources can be found in the form of a new series of short videos on various technology topics relevant to lighting control. Recent visitors to the company homepage, www.ArtisticLicence.com, may have noticed the appearance of Cogsy, a robot with a CPU the size of a planet, at least when it comes to the subject of lighting control. All of the Cogsy technology briefings can be viewed on our new video page or on the Artistic Licence YouTube channel.

Further technical information about DMX-Workshop upgrades:
• A new feature called "Ping Radar" uses broadcast ICMP packets across all network cards to detect network nodes. The results are provided as a hot-link list allowing the operator to instantly browse to and configure notes.
• An extended network packet capture and analysis package with revised formatting making data easier to read and analyze.
• Extended packet dissectors for sACN and KiNET have been added.
• A packet analyzer -- dissector for Art-Osc has been added, along with a new Art-Osc test generator to assist product developers.
• Improved metric analysis with additional packet categories such as unicast vs broadcast Art-Net have been added, making it easier for the engineer to visualize how the network bandwidth is being utilized.
