d&b audiotechnik Displays New Products at Infocomm 2012

d&b audiotechnik White range 4S, 5S, 8S 10A array

With the clatter of the gaming machines finally receding, its time perhaps to reflect on what was at InfoComm 2012. d&b audiotechnik displayed new products from their Black range, fresh members to the E-Series and the first showing in the US of their V-Series line array since its launch at Prolight + Sound in May. Their demo lounge meanwhile, was busy daily by people wanting to learn more about the values of the White range. Developed purposefully for the installation market, all loudspeakers from the White range address the physical, acoustical, and electrical considerations of installation in a clean unobtrusive industrial design.

According to the company, the highlight of the show was the US launch of the all new V-Series from the d&b Black range of products. This midsized line array system comprises the three-way passive V8 or V12 loudspeakers having 80- and 120-degree horizontal dispersion respectively. These loudspeakers are supported by the dedicated V-SUB which incorporates the d&b patented passive cardioid technology. The V-Series fulfils several roles: as a complement to the J-Series by providing identical coverage to audiences located in off axis areas as well as matching sound characteristics; as a delay system; and as a line array in its own right. Smaller, lighter, and equal to the J-Series in dispersion and tonality, the V-Series will provide opportunities to improve sightlines and reduce both cost and weight for productions designed for medium and large sized auditoriums. Another introduction at the show was an upgrade to the d&b ArrayCalc calculator that must always be used to predict the physical, acoustical, and safety performance of arrays. The new R1 export function generates a project file for the d&b R1 Remote control software, removing the need to manually transfer configuration information from one software to the other.

Also from the Black range of products but new to visitors were the small E4 and E5 loudspeakers. The most compact product offerings from the d&b E-Series stable, the E4 and E5 are both passively crossed, two-way coaxial loudspeakers, presenting 100-degree conical dispersion; a high performance solution for speech and music reinforcement in theatres, conferences, industrial presentations, broadcast studios together with their application as surround sound, delay, or fill systems.

Not content with the development in the Black range, d&b highlights at the show included four elements from the xS-Series which are now being offered in white as standard in addition to the traditional black. These are the 4S, 5S, and 8S loudspeakers and the dedicated little 12S subwoofer all from the xS-Series. The three loudspeakers deliver a 100-degree conical dispersion, making them highly interchangeable in mixed applications and each has a coaxially mounted HF unit. The 4S and 5S cabinets and most accessories are also available with the Special Color option, while the cabinets are weather protected as standard. Alongside these were the bigger brothers within the xS-Series as well as the xA-Series of line array cabinets.

"We set focus this year on innovation and integration," said Roger Keim, the d&b US marketing manager. "The new additions to the Black range clearly demonstrate the continued d&b commitment to system integration through presenting products that match performance delivery whatever the environment. The White range is no less well thought through; for installers and integrators this range presents a comprehensive and highly interchangeable set of solutions to suit any situation."
