PLASA Report: LumenRadio Launches New Products, Wins Award

LumenRadio's Gold Award for Innovation from PLASA London 2014

Building on the success of CRMXchip, the world's smallest wireless DMX receiver, LumenRadio launched CRMX TiMo -- a new generation wireless RDM module designed for high volume manufacture -- at the PLASA London Show last week. The company also picked up a Gold Award for Innovation for the CRMXChip.

Every year PLASA presents a number of awards for innovation at the PLASA London show, together with an award for sustainability. In addition to these regular awards, the judges are afforded the ability, if they see fit, to present a gold award -- an award designed to recognize innovation in a product which will make dramatic changes to the industry as a whole. This year, the honor of this gold award was bestowed upon LumenRadio for the CRMXchip -- a wireless DMX receiver which measures only 6mm x 6mm.

The awarding of the Gold Innovation trophy to LumenRadio marks the companies fourth innovation award in just six years -- with previous awards in 2009 for the CRMX Nova product line and 2010 for the CRMX Nova Flex -- both of which have now become standards in rental and installation markets worldwide. In 2013, LumenRadio was honored again for SuperNova 3 -- pushing the boundaries of what is possible in RDM control and making it accessible to everyone.

When summarizing the award for CRMXchip, the judges continued - "The low price point and incredibly small dimensions mean that there is now no excuse for not making wireless DMX a standard feature of every lighting product that uses DMX. The only option now should be whether the application calls for copper or air, not whether a light has the in-built option. This could be the beginning of Skynet for lighting."

CRMX TiMo, which debuted at the show and received honorable mention from the awards judges, the company says is small on form factor, but huge on functionality -- featuring all of the same capabilities as the full sized CRMX OEM RDM modules in a package just 33.5mm x 18.5mm.

Niclas Norlén, CTO at LumenRadio explains, "We are extremely proud of TiMo and also to announce that we are the first wireless DMX supplier that fully compliant with the ETSI EN 300 328 (v1.8.1) '2015' revision. TiMo is fully FCC part 15 certified with a modular approval to 300mW -- the highest allowed output power of any manufacturer within the entertainment industry. I believe we will revolutionize the industry for the second time this year."

One interesting feature for TiMo is that manufacturers are able to set TiMo up with a binding UID that links TiMo to their fixtures RDM UID. This means that controller software, such as SuperNova, can display the fixture as a single entity with the wireless features tightly integrated into the RDM controls of the fixture itself. No other wireless module offers such tight integration into fixture designs, the company says.

CTO and co-founder of LumenRadio, Norlen, commented, "This is an honor that nobody on the team expected. We pride ourselves on pushing technology further and we knew that CRMXchip was a leap forward -- to be recognized once again as innovators proves that it really is about innovation, not imitation! The only question we have now internally is -- how do we win again next year? I can tell you already we have a few ideas coming ... watch this space!"
