Check out the LSA show report on PLASA Focus: Nashville!

Before the exhibition floor even opened at PLASA Focus: Nashville, some of the attendees already had a taste of what was to come, compliments of Tony Award-winning scenic designer Donyale Werle. An hour before hundreds of attendees took to the exhibition floor, Werle led a free professional development seminar about her work creating sets with upcycled materials resurrected from dumpsters, recycling drives, and from organizations like Build it Green, Materials for the Arts, Film Biz Recycling, and the Salvation Army.

She talked about how she designed and built greener sets for such shows as Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, The Taming of the Shrew, The Rocky Horror Show, and Peter and the Starcatcher, for which she won a Tony Award. Through pictures and words, she demonstrated that, with a little creativity, you can use all kinds of discarded or salvaged materials to create masterful set pieces while contributing to the greening of the environment.
