Lucille Lortel Winners Announced

The winners of this year's Lucille Lortel Awards have been announced. The Lortel Awards focus on New York's Off-Broadway scene.

In the scenic design category, the winner is Miriam Buether for Glass. Kill, What If If Only. Imp., a quartet of plays by Caryl Churchill staged at the Public Theater. The lighting design winner is Cha See for the solo thriller The Unknown, written by David Cale and starring Sean Hayes, which had a commercial run at Studio Seaview. Taking the award for sound design is Mikhail Fiksel for the musical piece Mexodus, first presented by Audible at the Minetta Lane Theatre, now running in an extended engagement at the DR2 Theatre. Mexodus was created by Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson, who also star. The projection design winner is John Narun for Bughouse, a piece about the outsider artist Henry Darger, conceived and staged by Martha Clarke, with a script by Beth Henley. It was presented at the Vineyard Theatre. Winning in the costume design category is Qween Jean for the musical Saturday Church, based on the 2017 film, featuring a book and additional lyrics by Damon Cardasis and James Ijames and music and lyrics by Sia.

The only multiple award winner among the nominees is Mexodus, which took four awards, including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Director (David Mendizabal), and Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical (Robinson).
