Alcons Showcases its Broad Solutions Spectrum at ISE 2013

ISE 2013 sees audio manufacturer Alcons enjoying a comprehensive presence and showcasing a wealth of treats for visitors ears, according to the company, that also noted patented Pro-Ribbon technology and ongoing pursuit of audio perfection continue to bear significant fruit in the installation, cinema, and sound reinforcement market.

As in previous years, Alcons is providing the audio system for the popular ISE 3D Theatre, with daily presentations taking place on the current status of 3D audio technology. Partnering with LANG AG, Volfoni, LGE, Philips Digital Signage, and Wolfvision, Alcons will be hosting multi-channel surround demonstrations through its CRMS reference sound system.

The main focus of the stand will be the QR24 pro-ribbon line-source column -- a modular, two-way column-array loudspeaker to be used as in acoustically-challenging rooms. The compact QR24 delivers a full-range high SPL HiFi sound quality, with speech intelligibility in even the most reverberant rooms, without the necessity of DSP-based beamsteering.

Also the recently introduced BC332 compact cardioid sub, which features 18" + 15" woofers in cardioid arrangement will be on show. The subwoofer cancels the sub frequencies on the rear of the cabinet, reducing the reverberant field for greatly improved the system's accuracy, the company says.

Covering the (Home) cinema side of Alcons' solutions portfolio are the CR3 mid-sized (Home) cinema screen system and CRS8 two-way reference surround system, both being shown at ISE for the first time.

Recommended for larger home-theatres and auditoriums of up to 350 seats, the three-way CR3 screen system is designed to meet all requirements of current and future digital cinema sound formats. Featuring Alcons' patented pro-ribbon driver technology, it combines an exceptional clarity and intelligibility from low to high output SPLs with an unusually high dynamic range.

The-all new CRS8 , meanwhile, is a two-way 8" vented LF + 4" pro-ribbon HF pro-ribbon surround system. By utilizing identical MHF components as featured in Alcons' screen systems, the company says a perfect voicing match between screen and surround system is realized, resulting in an exceptionally wide and uniform sound stage throughout the entire listening area.

Alcons will also be previewing the CRMS compact cinema reference monitor system, with which the company makes its pro-ribbon cinema line-up more accessible to the residential home-cinema market. CRMS compact is a complete system, which includes shallow subwoofers, screen loudspeakers with newly developed two-inch, high-power pro-ribbon and matching pro-ribbon surround speakers. The CRMScompact system is with a mere 21cm/8" depth among the most shallow cinema systems on the market, enabling installation in nearly any space.

Also first showing at ISE are the Sentinel 4 and Sentinel 12 amplified loudspeaker controllers. Featuring a 400MHz analog devices SHARC DSP processor with patent-pending Class D amplifier stages, the powerful Sentinel units feature full matrix routing, 192kHz capable AES/EBU inputs, audiophile-grade amplifier stages, custom-designed sample-rate conversion, remote-selectable input sensitivity and all-digital signal control and processing. The ALC's are being used for delicate HiFi home-cinema's, to even the largest concert touring applications.

Demonstrations of the company's Q-series pro-ribbon column-array will be happening in the 700-capacity Forum room. The Alcons team will be presenting the company's solutions in reverb-sensitive applications.

Part of ISE 2013's official technical tour program includes a visit to the city's new EYE Film Institute, where an Alcons pro-ribbon cinema system is installed.

ISE 2013 takes place at Amsterdam's RAI from January 29-31, with Alcons exhibiting on stand 6-N134. The 3D Theatre is located in rooms E105 and E106.
