Bandit Makes It "An Evening in Orange" for UT Medical Center

"An Evening in Orange" for UT Medical Center with Bandit Lites

While the name may suggest otherwise, The University of Tennessee Medical Center's annual fundraising gala, "An Evening in Orange" was a glittering evening of white, with a lighting package donated by Bandit Lites. The black tie event and dance party took place April 16 and benefited The Cancer Research Endowment, where UTMC's CEO Joe Landsman announced that during this year alone, the Cancer Research Institute raised over $4 million.

Expanding off the permanently installed lighting system of The Mill & Mine, one of Knoxville's newest venues, Bandit used Philips Vari-Lites VL 2500 Spots and GRNLite moving washes mounted along 12" truss running the length of the room perpendicular to the stage, lighting the ceiling in the dining hall where '80s icon Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo performed.

"The beam height was only 12'7", so all the GRNLite moving washes were vertically hung heads-up on the top rail and VLs were mounted horizontally off the top rail," said lighting designer and Bandit general manager Giff Swart. "We had two 5' and two 8' A-type truss towers with Spandex socks on stage with VL 2500 Spots on top, and GRNLite Pars as toners. Between and flanking these we had GRNLite moving head washes."

Four dozen GRNLite LED Pars were placed around the room lighting the brick walls and a sheer white drape, giving the room an ethereal glow. Chauvet EZ Wash Hexes clung magnetically to the steel roof beams lighting handmade clusters of all the event's sponsors' logos.

Bandit's exclusive GRNLite LED Pars were also applied at the Coffee and Jazz Bar, on the façade of the building, in an outdoor lounge area, and around the gala's party tent skating the clear tent liner. Several Source 4 Lekos with a leaf breakup pattern lit the elaborate floral chandelier at the center of the tent.

"Four GRNLite 6-Lampbars lit a central bar and white leather furniture arranged around the room, but these were struck and moved out of the center after the initial reception -- and the tent became a dance floor!" said Swart. "The whole tent floor was covered in white vinyl which really gave a nice club atmosphere for the dance band while a DF-50 helped the mood."

Allison Burchett, director of philanthropy for Bandit Lites states, "We are glad to be a part of this annual fundraiser where the community comes together to support the area's only level one trauma center. Bandit Lites founder, Michael Strickland, proudly serves on the board of the medical center."
