Clay Paky Is "The One" for Robbie Williams

Pop legend Robbie Williams has recently completed his Swings Both Ways European tour, which saw lighting designer Mark Cunniffe create a fun and extravagant Vegas-style show, employing an array of Clay Paky Sharpy Wash 330s to deliver vibrant and varied color.

To complement the swing theme of the tour, Ric Lipson's set design was super theatrical with a huge 50' high and 90' wide working Austrian and four separate acts -- jungle, nightclub, hotel, and ship. Lighting designer Cunniffe therefore needed a wash light versatile enough to create a multitude of different looks and so specified 88 Sharpy Wash 330s from Neg Earth.

"The set also had a large video wall, 80' by 40', so I needed something really punchy that would cut through and give me the depth I needed, which the Sharpy Wash 330s were perfect for," explains Cunniffe.

The Sharpy Wash 330s were rigged in pairs in chandelier arrangements, which supported the ballroom/theatre feel. Cunniffe used them to wash the stage and scenery pieces with intense hues ranging from deep red to sapphire blue, thanks to their complete CMY color system and 11-color wheel.

"I also chose the Sharpy Wash 330s as I wanted a product I could pack the chandelier arrangements with, without making them too heavy," continues Cunniffe. "I also needed more sources than a standard 1500W wash light would give me because there was limited space to hang them."

The Sharpy Wash 330 is a compact 330W wash light, weighing in at only 18.5kg, that has the luminous efficiency, graphic and optical performance of a 1,000W fixture.

Robbie Williams embarks on his new Let Me Entertain You tour in March this year, with dates across Europe.
