Zero 88 and Warner Brothers in Cannes for MIPCOM 2010

The Zero 88 ORB Lighting console from Cooper Controls was chosen by lighting designer Chris Withers for the Warner Brothers hospitality events at MIPCOM 2010.

Held every October at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes and its surrounding areas, MIPCOM is the world event for co-producing, buying, selling, financing, and distributing entertainment content. It provides the people involved in the TV, film, digital and audiovisual content, production and distribution industry a market conference and networking forum to discover future trends and trade content rights on a global level.

Warner Brothers International Television hired the private beach belonging to the Hotel Majestic Barriere for the duration of the show, creating an exclusive venue that consisted of the hotel beachside restaurant and a specially constructed bar area as well as a private pier for meetings and relaxation.

The Zero88 Orb was used in conjunction with the ZerOS iPhone remote to program and run the lighting in all areas. During the day and early evening, the lighting was used to create an ambience for meetings and socializing before running various parties, cocktail nights and special announcements for invited guests in the evenings.

The Orb was used to control 18 Pulsar Chromabanks, 20 Thomas PixelPars, six Martin Professional Mac 301s and two DTS XR2000 Spot on the pier and four Mac 250s, four Mac 301s, Chromasphere and Wireless LED up-lighters in the bar area. There were also a further five Chromabanks in the beachside restaurant.

Chris Withers explains, "The Orb controlled the entire site which meant there were areas out of direct line of sight which I had to program. This is where the iPhone remote became particularly valuable in enabling me to focus moving lights and test cue stacks whilst standing in the area I was currently working on. The flexibility of the ORB coupled with the fantastically detailed remote software made this platform a dream to program the event on."
