RCF Expands Control Software Platform with RDNet 3.0 into HDL Line Array and VSA Steerable Array Series

RCF's RDNet 3.0

For years, RDNet has been the brain of the RCF TT+ Touring and Theatre Series of products. Recent advances have brought an expansion of the RDNet platform into select products in the HDL Line Array Series as well as the VSA Series of digitally steerable arrays with RDNet 3.0.

RDNet is a proprietary DSP protocol for RCF products that provides straightforward and intuitive monitoring and control of all components in an entire audio system.

RDNet is a secure and robust management for small, medium, and arena-sized sound systems as well as complex and extended installations. Each speaker cabinet in a system has its own DSP, making it possible to address specific presets or modifications of parameters to single or groups of objects. A network user can change level, delay, EQ, and other parameters, including advanced subwoofer configurations. Not only loudspeakers: it is possible to control routing and parameters of multiple RCF devices, such as digital matrixes or amplifiers.

RDNet checks all the connected devices, recognizes, and then adds them as objects on the main window, thanks to the auto-scan function. The real-time monitoring features a multitude of parameters, such as fan speed, temperature, inclination of the single speaker, VU meters and peak levels. The RDNet protocol runs on the ultra-stable RS-485 communication protocol through two hardware devices to connect the PC: the RDNet Control 2 (USB) is a two-channel unit that controls up to 64 devices, while the RDNet Control 8 (ETH/USB) is an eight-channel model that controls up to 256 devices in its subnet. RDNet software supports up to 20 CONTROL 8, all simultaneously linked to a computer via Ethernet, to get up to 160 RDNet ports (up to 5,120 devices).

In the HDL Series, RDNet is now offered onboard the HDL30-A dual 8" high-powered active line array and the HDL50-A dual 12" three-way active line array cabinets. They can easily be tied into a complete system complemented by SUB9004-AS 18" subwoofer, SUB9006-AS dual 18" subwoofer or SUB9007-AS dual 21" subwoofer.

With the VSA vertical steerable array, users are able to control beam steer, equalization, inputs, phase, delay and volume; along with complete monitoring of all system components.

Other key improvement and new features of RDNet 3.0 include:
* Completely redesigned offline and online operating mode for safe system administration
* Logic ID support for a "faulty device tolerant" network operation
* New monitoring features added for safety and evacuation systems
* Addition of Elliptic, Bessel and Linkwitz Riley filter types in EQ section
* Improved gain range -- now -90dB to +10 dB
* Phase curve added to equalization curve
* Improved impulse and phase response
* Advanced bass response alignment

RDNet 3.0 also adds support to the most recent additions in the TT+ Theatre and Touring Series including the TT22-A MK2, TT25-A MK2 SUB9006-AS and SUB9007-AS subwoofers, along with the TT25-CXA and TT45-CXA monitors.
