Clay Paky Enjoys Success at Prolight + Sound 2014

Clay Paky's busy stand at Prolight + Sound

"It was the most successful Prolight + Sound ever for Clay Paky." Pio Nahum, Clay Paky CCO, did not mince his words when he described the results the Italian company had achieved at the largest show for the industry in the world.

During the four-day show in Germany, Clay Paky's stand was constantly crowded with industry professionals from every continent. The demo area in particular was literally "taken by storm." Although over 30 demos were held, both in English and German, they were always "sold-out," forcing many determined latecomers to watch the demonstrations from the passageways along side the booth.

The new products on show -- the B-EYE, the SuperSharpy, and the Stormy - were featured in Clay Paky's lighting designer, Marco Zucchinali, impressive light show.

"Once again we have managed to come up with truly innovative products," Nahum said with satisfaction. "The trade professionals have responded enthusiastically, exactly as we expected. Our company's policy is clear to everyone: develop innovative concepts and quality products to scoop the competition, especially the unfair competition from the Chinese market. When the first 'clones' of our latest successful light start to arrive, we are ready to launch yet another major new product."

After the awards at PLASA London and LDI in Las Vegas, the company says the B-EYE has hit the mark again and scored a triple crown, winning the best lighting product prize at the first ever PIPA Prolight + Sound Press Awards. The prestige of these awards is ensured by its jury, consisting exclusively of professional journalists from the international specialist press (over 100 journals and websites).

The B-EYE is a high-performance wash light, a beam light, and a generator of completely new visual effects. Clay Paky presented a complete family of B-EYE lights at Prolight + Sound 2014, including the B-EYE K20, B-EYE K10, B-EYE K10 Easy, and B-EYE K10 CC versions.

The SUPERSHARPY is about four times as powerful as the Sharpy, although the company says the indoor fair surroundings did not allow this power to be fully appreciated. The news of the new luminaire, which Clay Paky had deliberately kept secret until the last minute, quickly spread all over the world. After only a few hours, the page announcing the new light on the Clay Paky website had clocked up over 3,000 likes.

The STORMY, a new LED strobe, was appreciated by rock fans owing to its mix of technological innovation and continuity with tradition. It is reminiscent of the effect of a classic strobe, but provides the versatility typical of LED technology.

Pasquale Quadri, founder and chairman of Bergamo, Italy-based Clay Paky SpA, received the prestigious lifetime achievement prize at the MIPA/PIPA Awards. The ceremony took place on March 13, 2014 and the winner was chosen by an overwhelming majority of the jury, which consisted of journalists from all around the world, representing more than a hundred industry journals.

With this MIPA/PIPA Lifetime Achievement Award, Quadri joins a highly exclusive club whose members consist of the mythical personalities who have received it before him for having made the history of the world music industry, such as the two Meyer brothers, who founded the famous loudspeaker company Meyer Sound, Fritz Sennheiser, inventor of the wireless microphone, and Jim Marshall, whose guitar amplifiers are legendary.

Nahum invited the press to the Clay Paky stand to illustrate the details of the new Clay Paky products and the commercial policy the company is pursuing. He emphasized the importance of constant continuous innovation, which lays the foundations for development in our industry and makes the market more dynamic. He then touched on the thorny issue of Chinese "clones." Clay Paky has become an open advocate of the fight against counterfeiting in recent months with some resolute action. He listed the positive outcomes achieved, which in 29 cases resulted in the business of the companies that had infringed the patents being blocked. Numerous other law suits are currently under way against companies that have infringed Clay Paky product patents (especially the Sharpy).

Nahum announced the seventh annual KOI Awards in London and also presented the South Africa KOI Awards, which will debut in 2015, restricted only to South African lighting designers. The event will be held during the Mediatech show and will be jointly organized by Clay Paky and its distributor DWR.
