In Memoriam: Christie Heiss

	Christie Heiss

Christie Joan Heiss, a longtime member of the New York lighting community, passed away on July 9, in Geer Village, Canaan, Connecticut, after a years-long battle with Lyme disease, which led to dementia. She was 74.

Heiss was born on July 4, 1951, in Anniston, Alabama and grew up in New Martinsville, West Virginia. She attended West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, where she was a double major in music and theatre; she moved to New York City shortly thereafter.

She worked for years as a production electrician in New York, where she was known by many as the Queen of Off-Broadway. She changed careers in her thirties and moved out of the city to become an equine midwife. She loved her home in the farming community of Ancram, New York.

Heiss was a very active member of her church, Episcopal Church of the Regeneration, in Pine Plains, and enjoyed volunteering there. A dedicated baker, she was known for making cookies and fruitcake every Christmas. She always had a cat, and her last one, Emma, regularly visited her at Geer Village.

She was predeceased by both her parents, her sister, Susie, and her brother, Peter. She is survived by many friends.
